  • You're missing the point. Uchida stands (or rather, SITS) by his answer, because it was the truth. Given the easy way out, he refuses to take it. The teacher lets him sit (conditionally) and permits both cushion and game, understanding that Uchida hasn't been taught the same formal reverence for the Emperor, but he must maintain discipline in class. He shows that something IS more important to Uchida -- his family honor. Uchida gives the required answer, not for the teacher, but for his family.

  • Japan is portrayed in a single dimension. The director used Japanese setting to express what he wants to say. His Japanese crew and casts brought authenticity.

The director succeeded in fooling jury at Cannes with his Japanese crew. This is a good proof that Palm d'Or doesn't mean anything really.

  • I love bean cake and casts in the film, but can't love this film.

    Because it's a typical anti-Japan film.

Few teachers were like him, but most of teachers were not.

Teachers knew that respect-mind for TENNO-HEIKA should no be forced but raised.

I can't understand why this film was prized.

This film makes most of Japanese be sick.

  • Did he know the plot or was he just clueless? Thx... Sick short !
