CGI will go the way of 3D. Ray Harryhausen is first and foremost an artist, not a technician. Just because you can use a piece of software, doesn't mean you have vision. Good on you, Karloff, for recognizing that.

I've Loved to watch Harryhaused since I saw my first Stop-Mo Film in the early 60's as a six year old. I really dug King Kong's fur moving from his fingers ruffling the fur. That mad it a little more alive. I used to get his magazine in the 70's and read them til they fell apart. Bradbury is another Giant in Sci-Fi although he says that the only Sci-Fi he ever wrote was Farenheit 451 and the rest are fantasys, Egytian style myths and fairy tales. God Bless their imaginations and artistry

Good point. The technical aspects of CGI have far outpaced the artistry. The whole appeal of stop motion, as RH himself has pointed out, is that it is obviously "not real." There is an element of fantasy about it: you know it can't be real, but there it is. And because it's not something you can re-render over and over again, all the little nits and tics of the animator's manipulation are there on screen, only adding to the personality of the animation.
