A review of the feature-packed Pinguy OS 11.04. Another Ubuntu derivative that is sticking with Gnome 2.32 to provide a fully-functional and feature rich desktop experience. It's ideal for desktop powerhouse, as minimal tweaking is required. All needs that you could possibly have are covered here, and an impressive array of tools/utilities abound for a reasonable 1.5 - 1.7 GB download depending on architecture. Definitely rivals Mac OS X on looks, functionality, and usability out of the box.

Resource intensive, but ready for anything.

  • so what would you reccomend for a pentium 4 with 512mb ram???

  • @pcpik3r I'd go with something lightweight, like Xubuntu, Lubuntu, or Linux Mint LXDE, or Linux Mint Debian Xfce Edition. :-)

  • @InfinitelyGalactic or I would recommend a new computer.

  • @sas1ni69 lolz....

  • iv'e been looking for this wallpaper where can i get it from ?

  • @dhwand Umm, I think it might even be a wallpaper from OS X leopard. Maybe try searching 'black and white pier wallpaper os x' and see what comes up, or google up the 'OS X Leopard wallpaper pack', that should turn up the right kind of results....good luck!

  • some great thoughts hear, might be a bit of a bear for a new user. simple is usually better.

  • Sayng it uses 700mb ram in use is not much help to a non linux user - how does that compare with, PclinuxOS or Xubuntu?
