I went barefoot as well (as a volunteer, so I had to work in it to boot). It was a bit smelly since it was that mix, but my feet are so soft today.

Ugh. I wasn't a fan of the mud, but it certainly made things interesting. It was a bit smelly (Dillo Dirt). I went with mud boots; I see you went the barefoot route. Both approaches were pretty common.
A very memorable day, for sure!
