The movie (after the 1972 novel by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre) is set around the dramatic creation of the State of Israel in 1949. I believe Bobby took the dead leader's Koran out of respect not as any kind of trophy. I'm impressed that a movie shows actual real feelings of a person for another person even though it's supposed to be an enemy. The only reason Bobby isn't killed is because his friend knows how much Bobby truely hates war. If only all people could feel this way and reason like this in a time of war.
