PLEASE IGNORE THE EMPTY FIRST 30 SEC OR SO... sorry!

This video is of a modern dance piece called Critical Mass, choreographed by Michelle Bernier. It was filmed at the dress rehearsal of Dance USM!, the University of Southern Maine's annual student dance production. The themes include questioning humanity's progress as the future comes closer and closer. Who has the power to direct our futures? Even if we wanted to be individuals, could we? Will science take us into a future that is brighter, or simply more saturated by stronger, faster, smarter light waves (or particles?)?? Are we better off for all of our advances if we dont look them in the face and seriously consider what is advancing? And how? And toward what end? If nothing else, I hope it raises some questions about the role of artists in the scientific frenzy toward the futures finish line.

Dancers:
Anne Bartlett, Michelle Bernier, Kyle Bouchard, Michael Frier, Dominic Rozzi, Kristine Rytky.
Costume Design: Kris Hall
Lighting Design: Bobby Wilcox
