Moving map and VFR Flight Planning for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Freeware from TA Software from the UK.

Plan-G for Microsoft Windows 7, Vista and XP, FSX SP2 and FS9.
Flight plans can be saved in either FS9 or FSX formats, and the
program will save the plan file to the correct folder. Flight plans produced by Plan-G can be printed with several options, and they provide a great deal of information in addition to the plan itself, such as destination RWY specifications
and ILS approach frequencies, plus all available frequencies for both
departure and destination airports.

Plan G is not integrated with FSX or FS9. Rather, it runs separately
and connects to Flight Simulator via SimConnect, FSUIPC , or over the network.

Elevation Profile
In order to use the Flight Plan Elevation profile feature, introduced with version 0.9.1, a suitable Digital Elevation Model (DEM) must be installed. This can be downloaded for free from the NGDC 'GLOBE' (Global Land One-km Base Elevation) website at http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/topo/gltiles.html You need to download and install a minimum of one tile to enable the functionality. You do not need to download and install every tile (no elevation data will be shown where tiles are not installed). Downloaded tiles must be placed in the Plan-G\DEM folder. e.g. Plan-G\DEM\f10g is the tile that covers the U.S. Eastern seaboard.

  • Very good thank you, but would like to know how to bring up the yellow plane on the map.

  • @zl2bmh To see the yellow plane on the map your simulator and Plan G have to be running , then press the connect icon in Plan-G, and you’ll see the yellow plane on the Plan-G map, and so long you stay connected the yellow plane’s position on the map will update as your plane moves in the simulator.

  • One problem I have is seeing the entire airport on the window view.. only shows a qtr to half of the aeropuerto??? Glitch?

  • @uutoobee I think it depends on the zoom level your viewing the airport at. I can fit KLAX in its entirety on my window whether in Earth, Terrain, Hybrid, Satellite, or Map view. This is zoomed in about 5 notches from max in the hybrid view where I can see the major FWYs, Blvd, and pretty much all the street names. However, at that zoom level I can't no longer see the airport detail in the Terrain or Map views. Provably a glitch.

  • Very helpful introduction.. Muchas Gracias sr...

  • @uutoobee Thank you!

  • nice background

  • Great Tutorial, Thanks

  • This might be an 'easy' and intuative piece of software, but you can't beat a human being explaining details that are awkward. Isn't that why universities have not only lecturers but tutors aswell. Some people understand certain sections whilst others excel at others. I work be myself and found this outstaningly good !! Well done PUA687 - we might not say hello but we are grateful
