  • I understand , but as a student who is getting ready to go into the field of interpreting i see it as deaf people want good skilled interpreters when they have to have an interpreter so interacting and going to deaf events is the best was for us to improve our skills receptively and expressively.

  • hello i am actually an ASL student who is hearing at higschool and we have to attend 2 deaf events this year, that will go towards our grade. But I am also president of the ASL club at my school, and i want to host a Deaf chat at my school, now my teacher is deaf and we have a CODA that goes to our school so we will have deaf people in the organization but do you believe it will be a good social event for deaf people even though it is hosted by mostly hearing ASL students?

  • I also understand where you're coming from. Here in CT there are places set up for Deaf and hearing people to be together. I'm not sure how I would feel about going to a Deaf Club or other place that is strictly for Deaf people. I have a personal rule that those places are to be kept for and with the people they want- if only Deaf, then I will accept that! Thanks for the post!

  • I am really interested in how the Deaf Community feels about ASL students...I am an ASL student. I do not know enough sign yet to understand this whole video. Can you put captions on?

  • i am a hearing person and i know that sometime everyone needs their own personal space but i have a friend that is hard of hearing and sometimes i feel as if i am irritating him by trying to communicate with words and sign language i dont want to disrespect him but i dont understand everything he says.

  • @LXD35 I think it is a good idea to host something and invite the Deaf~ but I think it should be a SIGNING ONLY event. No speaking as it would not be fair.

  • I think you approached this very sensitively. You did a great job. I know many Deafies feel this way & I think it was very good of you to include the idea that BEGINNING ASLstudents should not attend these events until they are more fluent. Deaf people need THEIR time to socialize and not have to work at teaching others during their social events. These are rare opportunities for Deafies to get together with their peers have a good time. NOT to have to stop and teach ASL. Thanks for posting!

  • best deaf community vs ASL video on Youtube

    (:

  • @Zeebaby777 ASL is the sign language that Deaf/Hard of hearing(dhh) people use

  • what we need to do is get more coda's like me to get interested in becoming interpreters because they have the gift of being an interpreter

  • I understand why it would bother the Deaf community... I am a CODA, and I rarely go to the coffee nights, but even when I'm out with my family for dinner, people will come up and ask me how to sign a certain word, or they'll come up and show me that they know a sign or two, and it's rather annoying when I'm trying to have a nice, quiet dinner with my family..

  • Is there a difference between ASL and DHH?or is it the same thing.??
