Beautiful, but why is this performed a half step above modern pitch? This is performed a whole step higher than I would have thought, which may explain why the recording uses a tenor for what is marked in my score as an alto/bass duet. Just curious.

It should be a bass, but for the bass we had it was too high. In fact there is a version on that pitch, which was F major at 415 Hz. I was looking at the sources and I couldn´t find if there is a reason for it. Ton Koopman did it in that pitch as well. It is the same as cantata BWV 4 which is sometimes performed in G minor because of the cornetos. E minor would not be a good pitch for those instruments for sure...

@harpsinuno Thanks. After I posted that I discovered that there are two editions, one in Eb and one in F. Seems most of the Youtube recordings are in F, and the demands of the instruments seem to explain it. I'm singing it next month, and I wonder what key it will be in!
