This is probably the closest you can get to a blue whale breaching from what I have seen. Whether one defines it that way or not is a different story...no hair splitting...whatever it was it was cool! Just enjoy the footage.

The main event of the day (August 31, 2012). A KABC news helicopter was taking footage of some lunge feeding which was awesome, but it totally missed the main event about 10-15 minutes later!

This whole sequence took place in about 13 minutes. This is some of the highlights of a rare event in this area. It seems like some sort of blue whale courting took place here. The two male blue whales were chasing the female blue whale. One of the boys seemed to always be a little behind the other two blue whales. Or, maybe it was just a big fight! Or, maybe they were just playing tag! lol!

This was amazing, but very difficult for me to video. I wanted to zoom in at a lot of points, but I did not want to lose sight of any major action. The whales were difficult for me to "read" like I usually do because they were rapidly changing directions! It was slightly bumpy out there too...there was a point near the end where they went by and those waves didn't help! ;)

I added a little of the "tense" music mainly because the wind was really bad at that angle. A few words were also used that I guess you could say should not be repeated in a "family friendly" video. Some people, not experienced whale watchers, were freaking out a little when Captain Corey said the whales were coming right for us; someone even said, "we know where the life preservers are". lol!

Thanks Captain Corey and Frank for another great time out on Dana Wharf's OCean Adventure Catamaran!
