This is just so exquisite! She was one of those rare artists that could make the mere sound of her voice take on a life of its own. Svetlanov is great, too. Great post, Manrico!

@ManricoV I think it was mainly Russian music. At the piano Rostropovitch played with no music (he had a tiny score ). then the last work was for voice with a small chamber group. Rostropovitch and Oistrakh sounded heavenly. I am sorry I think it was in the very late 1960s, I forgot what music.

@Hergesell156 I was just extremely lucky to hear that concert so many years ago in London. All three of these people were phenominally great. There has never been a cellist as great as Rostropovitch in his best performing years. David Oistrakh moved me musically more than any other violinist. As string players, those two people will always be my favourite. Vishnevskaya had an incredibly great voice. Thank you for sharing these incredible recordings.

She was such a fantastic singer. I heard her live in London accompanied by her husband on the piano. He switched and played cello in a chamber music piece with David Oistrakh amongst others. I have always been an enormous fan of Rostropovitch and David Oistrakh.

Do you remember what Galina Vishnevskaya sang at the concert? Which programs? Have you perhaps recording from the concert?
