@GwenBeauregard I think every french-canadian people knows french as a mother tongue in some way, but he attended an english-speaking university in montreal and his french wasn't important in his poetry and singing work.. Thats why we didint have a chance to listen to him singing in french... Every Song of Cohen are in English..

He's born and bred in Montreal. Of course speaks, writes and
understands French. It's just not his mother tongue, that's all.
Most educated Montrealers are bilingual and even multilingual.
