Trailer for the new novel The Shepherd Lord, by George Peter Algar.

and http://georgealgar.com for more info.

Young Henry Clifford, heir to vast estates in the North of England, is spirited away after the Battle of Towton for fear that the Yorkists will take his life in reprisal against his father's actions. He is brought up as a simple shepherd boy so that his noble background does not betray his true identity. Narrated by the shepherd that raised him until it was safe to reveal his lineage and reclaim his birthright, this is a riveting tale contrasting a life on the run against an idyllic pastoral backdrop.

The Shepherd Lord is a tale of identity, roots and nurture. One of an unbreakable and everlasting bond that develops between two people from very different backgrounds. A true story, that has been all but ignored for centuries and is now bursting to be told.

  • This is fab! My partner Tim Bastock works with Howard and we will meet up with him at Glasto next year. I'm also a writer, and am trying to write a sit-com to offer TV companies about amateur dramatics, along the lines of 'Dinner Ladies'. Any suggestions/advice? Years ago, I emailed TV companies about a show where amateurs could audition for roles in West End musicals. After rejections, Endemol nicked my idea. I know now what to do and have lots of TV contacts. Contact me via Howard via Tim

  • Hi, I'll be sure to talk to Howard about this and get in touch with you soon. Happy to look at your work and share advice on how to get your message out to the media. Regards,

  • Love it, love it, love it! Great cinematography and fantastic musical score. This feels more like a trailer for a blockbuster movie than a novel, but it made me order a copy on amazon all the same!

  • Thanks for your feedback and I hope you enjoy the book. We had a lot of fun making the trailer. As for the voiceovers, if we take out the main Shepherd character, the average age of the actors is less than 15 years old. I think they did a remarkable job.

  • This looks ace - really interesting. Am particularly enjoying the very handsome man portraying the shepherd lord!! I think it will make a good Christmas pressie for my Dad.

  • Glad you liked the handsome young shepherd. I get a lot of comments about him. Maybe I should start a fan club for him?

Yes, it 's still good to look as it was when it was first posted.

  • Just watched it again! Still sends shivers down my spine. If this book doesn't get made into a movie, it will be a travesty!

  • Not read this book yet myself as it's sitting in my "to do pile". However, being the son of a Yorkhire woman (born and bred) I've been informed that she loves the dialect and it makes her feel very much as though she's back at home with her parents and their thick Yorkshire brogue. A fantastic book by all accounts and it is on my list to read next.

  • What a gripping trailer, with wonderful musical accompaniment. My copy has arrived from Amazon: the perfect Christmas present. Can't wait to settle down and read it!
