Wayport Pinata At Penguicon

The Wi-Fi broadband internet access provider Wayport has a lock on most of the convention hotels around. Their exorbitant and unjustified fees and terms have been the bane of the existence of all-volunteer not-for-profit conventions for years. We built a pinata representing Wayport, and at the closing ceremonies for Penguicon 4.0 in 2006 we demolished it in effigy. We broadcast the pinata's tasty candy into the crowd without caring if they shared it with each other, and without charging anyone outrageous fees for the candy. We're just lucky Wayport doesn't charge money for the use of the drinking fountains to wash down the candy. From then on Penguicon has been at a hotel that is free of Wayport. penguicon.org
