@SupernalOne This is because it is a "Soundtrack" and not supposed to be out front... it is only to be background to the scenes, to the visuals and dialogue. He knows what hes doing, and what he was there for.

Ambient, synth heavy stuff was the craze in mainsteam popculture at that time specially 84-87, then a little less.

miami vice was a great commercial breakthrough for Hammer, and more power to him, but he didn't put his full jazz-rock sensibilities to use in them, it seems to have mostly been mood music, ambient soundtrack material - I love better his compositioins for his own band, that are fast and tasty
