Karl Frierson - Ten Minutes

A solo debut from Karl Frierson -- formerly known as the lead singer in De Phazz, stepping out here on his own as more conventional soul artist! At the best moments, the record bubbles with some of the electric 70s soul that was beginning to show in the De Phazz sound of the last few records -- an approach that makes good use of Karl's deeper roots in soul music, and which blends his tradition-drenched vocals with warm grooves that slide along nicely in a mellow soul mode. There's a few mis-steps into slightly hokey territory, but overall the record's got more than enough good tracks to set Karl apart from his previous work -- and should be a good first step on the road to solo stardom. Titles include "Freaklife", "Under Investigation", "Ten Minutes", "Only You", "Tall Green Grass", "Goodthang", and "Lucky Luvah".
