He fought the Vikings, not the Danes although he might have had a few battles, it was the Vikings that had taken over Mercia and wanted Wessex as their King's home. You have left out so much about what made him a great king which wasn't warfare. It was his belief in an egalitarian society where everyone worked together for the good of the community and his religious beliefs in doing good works. He used the Roman systen as a political basis but with his views on equality. Do not use it, read it.
