It's a shame it took 76 years for someone to care enough for Junius to look into his case and fight for his justice. I will never understand how a hearing person's ignorance overrides a deaf person's rights. Granted, it was many years ago and people were not educated about deafness, but it still angers me. Imagine if the tables were turned and the Deaf were the majority and the hearing experienced this oppression...

I want to order that book, please send me a message with the name of the book. I am a retired teacher of the deaf in South Carolina. I also remember the story of a deaf man who was in the state hospital here for over 40 years before he was released, also not mentally ill. I still have a copy of the story that was in The State newspaper, kept it for several years.

Wow! I wonder why lawyer didn't get them imprisoned for knowing he wasn't mentally ill and kept him there. It's like kidnapping and holding him hostage. At Gally, I heard that a mother thought his baby was retarded, because he didn't responded to sound, so he was put to a ward. Observers thought he was retarded, because he coped other patients' behaviors well. He stayed in the ward for too long until someone discovered he had mentally health.
