Part two of an interview with NeuroPace's Dr. Martha Morrell by Epilepsy Therapy Project's Joyce Kramer about a new treatment option for epilepsy that is designed to detect abnormal electrical activity in the brain and deliver small amounts of electrical stimulation to suppress the abnormal activity before any seizure symptoms occur. The treatment, known as responsive neurostimulation, builds upon established neurostimulation technology that is FDA approved to treat Parkinson's disease and Essential Tremor.
The implantable device is being investigated at 29 sites in the U.S. as a treatment option for people with epilepsy who experience uncontrolled seizures and do not respond well to medication. Dr. Morrell provides information on the RNS System clinical trial and discusses patient eligibility for the trial.
