This has to be one of the craziest rides I have ever taken... largely because it was the most ghetto airport experience ever. They weighed all our luggage and then weighed us. The Lao airline didn't want to give us a ticket that we already bought (but apparently they weren't handling passengers according to rules of "we purchased ours a month ago and a lot of these people just bought theirs yesterday") since their list didn't have our names on it (inconveniently). A little crazy to sit there waiting to see if you can get on a plane that will take you to Vientiane in an 1.5 hrs when it'll take nearly 24 hrs by bus.
I'm really glad I got on!
Just beware... if you are traveling to remote regions of Laos and you think you have a ticket purchased... your plans can always change for no apparent reason. Thankfully, we had a friendly Lao person who spoke English fluently intervene on our behalf.
The landscape is amazing in this region. It is mostly small villages without power or running water, and some of the poorest areas and worst living conditions in the world are in these mountains.
