Humans are playing with fire by training the chimps with intelligence, they are eating healthy fruits and green vegetables and they can evolve. While we humans are devolving by eating junk fried food etc, soon Planet of the Apes scenario may come true..... (I hope not)...

@dadiddlydooda not all captive animals live longer than wild ones. My favorite animal is the sand cat and it survives poorly in captivity. Don't the three and two toed sloths do horribly in captivity too?

@dismalite This is far from what actual prison is like. Just because you view this as inhumane doesn't necessarily mean the chimps feel the same way either. Those chimps are probably smart enough to express themselves. Why not ask them if they're truly unhappy or not. My best bet is that they are happy. They get treatment if they're hurt. They get to watch tv, play around. Plus, they don't have to worry about nasty predators after them = less stress. Captive animals live longer than wild ones.

was this the institution where the facility was shut down due to a lack of funds, and the inhabitants (chimpanzees, baby gorillas, and baboons) were killed?
ashihtaka 1 year ago
@ashihtaka No it wasn't. It was shut down over the extreme protests of everyone there. The animals were taken to a sanctuary and Kermit died afterward.

decadyne 2 years ago
@decadyne It was in Columbus, Ohio. It no longer exists.

Do these nihilistic animal psychology experimenters really have to provide such a cold, sterile, prison-like environment for these apes?
dismalite 2 years ago
They worked hard to get the money to provide the place for the animals. The chimps were ones others couldn't keep. They are expensive and difficult to keep.
