Lalane Taylor may only live an hour or so from Camp ASCCA, but this is her first summer as a member of the Camp ASCCA family. Lalane is a rising senior at the University of South Alabama double majoring in Therapeutic Recreation and Physical Therapy.
Lalane will be lifeguarding during the summer sessions, and she says her job is as much about making the aquatics activities fun as it is about making them safe. Aside from being on duty at the pool and lake, along with several other lifeguards, she will be giving boat rides, riding on the innertubes with the campers, and giving swim tests.
Lalane is an example of the unique combination of education and work experience that Camp ASCCA can provide. Like many other staff members, Lalane's major is pertinent to Camp ASCCA's mission and vice versa. Her days spent as a lifeguard and interacting with campers will actually contribute to her academic class hours. Because of such opportunities, Camp ASCCA has a staff knowledgeable in handling different disabilities, and their different positions will make them stronger academically and in their potential careers.
