This is BS! The real American Dream was to just own a home, a car and to make enough money to put your kids through school. Hopefully after 25-35 years of work, maybe have enough to retire on and pay for your daughters wedding. PUFF! Thanx to Wall Street and the Banks this is all gone for most of us! PERIOD! Pure greed destroyed the dream! That's why banks pay you 2% on money inyour savings and 28% on your CC debt. Pure greed!

@DontBuyChinese Well, what I was saying in my previous post was that Americans still haven't learned their lesson.....as soon as the economy seems to be coming back, they will spend themselves into a frenzy once again. Nothing has changed, unlike what Orman claims in this piece.

This is America...they assume we're all gullible & assume we'll all consume all their B/S without any critique. We are a nation of fundamentalists fed B/S about capitalism/democracy/christian­ity/republicans/democrats...an­d each generation is expected to warm up to some form of the B/S and espouse it to our own children. I think a lot of what Orman says here is nonsense. Americans haven't learned much from this economic depression, they still are very materialistic and buy whole-heartedly into the corrupt Republican message. Americans all want to keep up with the Joneses, live for social status, and label everything as "winning" and "losing." What America needs is for the insurance and credit companies to go under...these two industries run our system and artificially inflate all prices.
