Testimony by Wayne of God's divine provision
Titled "Give, and it will be given to you"
Luk 6:38 "Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return."
On 8Nov2007 a public holiday (Deepavali), like Peter in the bible, both myself and Gyan went fishing in Punggol which is quite near to the place I stay. I usually cycle there for fishing, but this time round, I drove to the outback of Punggol onto the off-road sandy tracks. It was amazing that my Toyota Corolla could go through such rough terrain that is meant for 4WD jeeps. The journey to the fishing spot was scenic; Gyan remarked that he loved this place and the nature, the place does not look at all like we are in Singapore; as we drive, we pass by bushes and tall grasses. Gyan taught me that those grasses could be used to build roofs for houses.
We reached the fishing spot at about 10:10am which is supposed to be the best time that day for fishing as indicated by my GPS which compute based on the local GPS position and the relative position of the sun and moon.
About 15-20m to our right were two (china) chinese men who were fishing. They have caught about five cat fishes, while we have caught none yet.
Gyan using my net, caught a school of small fishes (too many to be counted; see photo). We used these as live baits on our rods. Almost immediately after Gyan cast the bait into the water, Gyan got a fish. As Gyan reeled in the fish, it was entangled with the line from the china man. We reeled in to see whose bait did the fish bite; and to our surprise, the catfish has both Gyan's hook and the chinese man's hook in the same catfish mouth. This is indeed very unusual.
Gyan insisted that the chinese man take the fish that was caught in both our lines. Although we caught nothing yet and the chinese man has caught five cat fishes already, we choose to give the fish away.
Although in my heart, I had mixed feelings and felt sad for giving the fish away, I believe God is teaching me a lesson on giving. I prayed that as we gave away one fish, God will bless us with ten more fishes. God will never short change us.
Gyan used my net and went to the other end to fish. Not long after, Gyan came back with a catch, and what a catch!!! "Wayne, look what I have caught!" To my amazement, I saw in the net there were quite a number of medium size cat fishes. Exactly ten in total. During that day, we did not catch any more fishes, only that one catch, we caught exactly ten fishes. God answered my prayer that as we gave away one fish, God bless us with exactly ten fishes that I have prayed earlier. God is using this to build my faith. I did not have great faith, but God is gracious and faithful and wanted to bless His children.
And at about noon time, the sun was blazing hot; we needed to go back soon. Gyan and myself cast off our baits for the last time. till then, we have not caught any large game fish. I prayed to God to bless us with a large fish. Not long after the prayer a car drove pass us and stopped. The driver asked us if we wanted his fishes that he caught. Gyan told him to keep the fishes for himself. He told us that he does not eat cat fishes. Gyan ask him to drop his bag of fishes out his car window to the ground. As we retrieve the bag, we saw amidst the few cat fishes, there was a giant cat fish about 2 feet long and weighs about 2kg (see attached photo). I was expecting to catch the fish with our own effort, but God exceeds my expectation and I never expect that my prayer was answered through someone giving us the fish. I did not catch the fish and there is nothing that I can boost about and yet we are blessed with a giant fish. In this experience, God is teaching me not to put God in a box and limit God to work within our own limited options.
Gyan reaffirmed God's love for me. "Wayne, your prayers are powerful; God answered your prayers" God is building my faith and I did not have great faith at that time, but it is the faithfulness and grace of God. I did not have confidence in myself and not even my faith and did not even think that my prayers are powerful. I have very little to offer, very little skill in casting nets. All I know is God is good and is faithful regardless whether I get any catch.
