He was obviously a very insecure person. I don't even think he was very funny or witty, at least not in that audition.

Mike was the member that gave Monkees musical cred and no doubt he was a very talented guy but that's still no guarantee for success. Without the Monkees his music may never have been heard outside of his local watering holes. Sometimes I wish he would drop the I'm too good for the Monkees attitude and acknowledge the group gave him a vehicle to get his music heard. Success in music is so rare it takes talent and luck to make it. The Monkees were his lucky break.
