The Fontane Sisters (Bea, Geri, and Margi Rosse) from New Milford, New Jersey started out performing with their guitarist brother, Frank, in 1941, but he was killed during WW2. Perry Como took note of the sisters, and they subsequently performed often with Perry on his radio show and later on his popular tv variety show. They also recorded a few hits with Perry including "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas". "Seventeen", recorded on their own, reached all the way to #6 in August of 1955 as the sun was setting on an era of music.

  • That recording is an excellent example of how the "Big Band" era really lasted until the early Sixties. Three part vocal harmonies, solid musicianship, great arrangements, and whistleable tunes made music enjoyable on many levels. Oh sure, there wasn't any deep message in most of those songs, but they sure were fun to listen to!

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! I love this song! It's regularly played by a local nostalgia radio station. If these sisters were any more cool, they'd have been frozen! Strictly from wowsville, daddy-o. THANKS for posting this delightful "blast from the past"!!!

  • I vaguely remembered this song... I have a friend whose daughter is 17 today... I typed in "At Seventeen" and got Janis Ian... so I typed in a few of these lyrics and this popped up... I am so excited... gonna download it and put it on my IPod. Thanks! I was able to post it to her FB wall. LOVE it!
