This video is a supplement to my review of the Sony DSC-HX100V camera. It provides a short description of optical vs digital zoom options and includes samples of outdoor footage using Sony's 'Smart' and 'Precision' zoom.
+The original video was shot in 1920x1080 AVCHD format (60fps).
+Weather on the day of the shoot was cloudy.
+The video has not been color graded or processed by any filters.
+The intro segment was recorded on a Sony DSC-HX1 (720p MP4) with internal mic's.
+The memory card used was a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo 16GB Mark2

Purchase the Sony DSC-HX100V at Amazon:

Transcend 16GB Class 10 SDHC Card (I shoot most of my HX100V videos with this card in the PS mode 1920x1080 60fps)

Sony Memory Stick Pro-HG Duo HX

Sony NPFH50 Battery

Be sure to check back (easiest way is to click 'subscribe'). I will create another sample video with low light, macro and audio samples.

  • The deal breaker is the stupid battery.

Need another one? Cool, That'll cost you another $69.99 or something stupid like that.

Canon is also doing this. I'm not going to buy a camera that uses it's own special batteries just because a company wants to be greedy.

  • @AzBirdDog - I used to feel the same way. I wanted AA batteries in my camera because AA's will never go away. That makes sense with smaller point and shoots, but cameras that can shoot long HD video really suck the battery juice. The Sony battery is a solid performer. I put a link for extra/replacement battery in the video description. At this time, only $35 (half of the amount you listed) and worth it. I have a couple extras, myself, to make sure I don't miss cool photo/vid opps.

  • what card should I use to shoot avchd 60p?

  • @humxa24 - I use the Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 10 card and it works great! I'll drop a link in the description, below.

  • @BinaryCafe I have a question. When I uploaded my video on my computer the videos were not HD and I could not hear any sound. Could anyone help me? And also I uploaded pics from this camera and they werent as good of a quality as Ive seen on online. HELP

  • Hi Michael, great video. Explain to me how when you zoom in say on the pretty little finch I can't hear the clicking like I can on my videos??? Can you explain please. Thanks.

  • @BinaryCafe $35.00 can buy 3 four packs of the best rechargeables on the market.

I deal with shooting all day, not just 90 minutes spurts.

2700mah rechargeables will last almost all day long for me.

I never miss shots because I went out and bought 100 bucks on 3 batteries.

My HD camera uses these specialized batteries, and that's what I had to do.

Charge them ahead of time at about 2 and a half hours per each charge.

Maybe that's why it's 2 years old but barely used.

    Some like them, I don't.

  • I want to sell my Sony A300 and buy the Sony DSC-HX100V !!

Because i tiered of the weight of the Alpha.

Would you say go for it ?

  • I JUST LOVE YOUR TUTORIALS!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE AS GREAT AS THE CAMERA I JUST GOT ONE!
