Bill Dow has been farming organically at his Ayrshire Farm in Chatham County, NC, since the early 1980s. Later, Ayrshire became the first certified organic farm in the state.

Dow has been a leader among small scale, organic growers since the beginning.

He helped found the Carrboro Farmer's Market, one of the most successful in the nation, in the early 1980s.

He helped create Carolina Farm Stewardship Association.

He helped develop the Sustainable Agriculture Program at Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro.

Now he has become the first small-scale farmer in the Triangle region to protect his farm by granting a conservation easement to Triangle Land Conservancy.

In this video produced by Triangle Land Conservancy intern Katherine Vance, Bill Dow shares insights earned in his more than 30 years of farming.
