THE CANNABINOIDS present
{welcome to the human brain and the science of addiction}
6 laptops, 4 turntables, 4 keyboards, 2 mp drum machines, live onstage production

The Cannabinoids represent a musical exploration of the science of addiction. It's the sensational reaction created when the synthetic combines with the organic, and The Cannabinoids are the receptors that bind the experience. The project was originally conceived when Erykah Badu sought to manifest live musical improvisation utilizing the tools of studio tracking and hip-hop production.

Inspired by her cosmic collaborations for her award winning New Amerykah, Part I album release in 2008, Erykah reached out to musicians, DJs, and beatsmiths from her hometown of Dallas Texas whom she felt would be able to vibe with the concept. The musical concept was improvisation, and has developed into a live remix set. The ideological concept was akin to the studies done on cannabinoid receptors, which identified specific proteins present in the brain that are responsible for the euphoric effects of cannabis.

With each member of the group assigned a specific cannabinoid (musical role), the receptors proceed to serve as a catalyst to inspire creation in each other, and to collectively create a psychedelic, live hip-hop experience for the audience.

  • Here I thought New Amerykah Part 1 was freaqy enough but it looks like Part 2 will outdo it judging from this clip. Fine with me. Erykah is one freaqy chica but I love her for it. We're all freaqs in one respect or another, haha. Freaq on Erykah, freaq on!

  • omfg, when does the music start??!?!?!?! bvaldfjaldafjdas;lfdls FUCK!!!

  • Not really happy when somebody tries to teach me a lesson instead of just playing a good beat. Wheres the f ing beat? Are you trying to distract me Badu? These guys don't even have a beat do they? Bullshit is ok but only when it's used as like a seasoning to some goodshit. Where's the good part?

  • All improvisation? That's exactly how cannabinoids were evolved in the first place, according to Robert Melamede (PhD, CEO of Cannabis Science), who founds his understanding of biology on an extension of physics konwn as "Far From Equilibrium Thermodynamics."

    It's hard to explain, but it just goes to show that the Cannabinoids (the band and the internal compounds) thrive in spontaneity and live in a world of elaborate and endless newness that seeks to organize the chaotic world around us.

  • @GoddessChee99 me too :

  • I saw these guys live, it was really horrible. they just chopped up dilla beats and thought it was pimp.
