Street food is the best food

There is a saying in India that street food is the best food. Although street food can potentially be the worst food as well I must say that a few of my best dining experiences have indeed taken place on the street.
The professionalism and efficiency of this cook and the baker was absolutely stunning. And the result? Three of the best meals I've had in India - three, because I dined there three times in two days.

You are right subrayo. North-Indian food in Amritsar. It's in one of the most busy streets of Amritsar 200-300 meters east of the rail road tracks.

a rule of thumb...for every 6 ounces of indian street food or beverage consumed, take one dose of pepto bismol, for quantaties over 6 ounces you will need prescription strength anti-dirreaheal medication and antibiotics. If you must eat it, give yorself a one week buffer before any type of travel.

I strongly disagree. I had no stomach problems whatsoever in relation to Indian food. I did have problems when I drank tab water - which is dangerous in countries where water is scarce.

South-Asian food is generally thoroughly cooked - often in such an extent that Westerners need time to learn how to grab hold of the nutrition it contains.

I have been warned many times to dont eat street food in India.But Im tellin ya, since I ve tryed it first time cant say there is something better than street preapared food, and really there is nothing to be aware of.I have been to many luxorious restaurants but its NOTHING if I compare it with street food.

Kudos to you for being brave and trying the street foods. They're indeed the best, although the compromise on hygiene is inevitable (just consume everything at high temperatures, and you'll be fine). Screw the chains and 5-star restaurants! :)

I used to fast food made in roads when I was in india....

I love the way they do it.... they become professionals after a while....

@drdukeful BTW, I love the ghee floating on the daals & sabjis once in a way, we used to eat at Kesar or other vaishno Dhabas about 2 times a year, or if we were driving long distance. I still use desi ghee, but in very small amounts, so that I don't lose the flavor & the taste, but don't get the grease on my fingers & plates. The pics would be great....

@aparaajita10 u right the phirni is still awsome..... but the quality of food has really deteriorated with time at Kesar's.... they still serve phirni in mitti ke katoras...... by people getting health conscious i meant they have reduced the extra over flowing ghee on dals and shaai paneer ........if u need some new pics do write i clicked a lot of them recently can send u on u r mail ... bye for now .

@drdukeful Oh. Things do change over time. I forgot that the people r getting health conscious, so they've switched from the desi food to the really healthy foods, pizzas, burgers vagera, vagera. Kesar Dhaba used to make the most awesome phirni, they sold it set in small individual servings set in mitti ka kasoras. I've never had phirni to beat that. Thanx for telling me.

@aparaajita10 No its not Kesar da dhaba ....... It is the vaisno dhaba on fatehgarh churian road, amritsar....... OK type ......... Kesar is a famous one .now even Kesar is loosing its shine using too much ghee ....people r getting health conscious :)

@drdukeful Is it Kesar da Dhaba? Dhabas in India, especially the ones where the long haul truckers eat, have the best food. When I was growing up, the dhabas would throw out the food after 10 or 11 pm, for they wouldn't serve any of it next day. If you got there around that time, as per my experience, they gave us the food for free, as they said they were going to throw it out any way.

@GunnarGeir They need it coz the westerners clean their insides only once a week, their wall paper paste that they eat for food does not allow more than that.
