@castalia60able Omg,yes it is why,and deservedly so...I think both she and Richard put on a very powerful performance, they complimented each other so well. She made everyone around her better, that's the mark of a true actor! There r very few actors left, man or woman, that can deliver this kind of powerful performance, she was/is truly one of the last of the great performers....We love u Barbara, thank U for the memories... Bravo Bravo Bravo!!! <3<3<3

That is why she won the Emmy for this Min-Series.. I also felt the pain and the longing
she felt for Father Bricassar - Bravo!!!!

Same passage from the Book. Sad to say she was right.. So Righteous - he couldn't give her a simple kiss.. What harm would that have done? He was Pius and Self- Aborbed. Barbara really let him have it - but he won't admit it was the truth until much later in life. What a performance from Barbara! So glad she got the Emmy for it! RIP

I LOVE BARBARA STANWYCK!!! RIP Miss Stanwyck

@dvlaries -- Oh I disagree. Richard Chamberlain was still, quite, in the prime of his youth. What on earth are you talking about, too old? Did you not see his body in his semi-nude scene - never mind his youthful beauty throughout the entire picture? Are we talking about the same actor here? What were you looking for? Justin Beiber? HAHAHAHAHA!!! Goodness.

Oh my goodness, she, the great Miss Barbara Stanwyck, did this brilliantly!! She's pure genius. Now this, ladies and gentlemen, is acting. Man oh man, they don't make them like her anymore.

Wow! I've always loved this scene! And I heard somewhere that they originally wanted Audrey Hepburn for this role!
-
@patvazable I suspect there was more Ruby Stevens in this than there was acting patvazable. Miss Stanwyck was a brilliant and complex woman. She deserved every ounce of the Emmy she won for her role as Mary Carson in this 1983 performance.

Be it a television mini-series or otherwise, The Thornbirds has THIS scene in which Miss Stanwyck excels beyond most any "acting" I've ever witnessed. In this one incredibly honest and uncharacteristically genuine human scene, Stanwyck emotes her lines with all the conviction of her own truth. I can watch this scene one hundred times and feel precisely what she projects with the same impact as the first time I saw it. Her emotional prowess is timeless. Brava bravissima Barbara Stanwyck!
Wow,this was one of the most powerful, most emotionally driven scenes of Barbara's career.I remember feeling every ounce of her pain, and anger, and emotion. She made you believe that she was bitter that she'd grown old,and was no longer a sexual attraction to men.She just let spill all of her bottled up bitterness, and she gave this performance everything she had.Even seeing it today, still brings out a flood of emotions, now that's powerful acting.Bravo!!!!! RIP Barbara ♥
