Richard Bosworth is playing a second encore, the Grieg Nocturne, for an appreciative audience at a Charlotte Symphony Orchestra concert. This took place in March, 2005.

Edvard Grieg was known as a miniaturist. The Nocturne is one of many character type pieces published in a set of collections called Lyric Pieces. Enjoy this little gem!

  • Every time I do listen this nocturne and it makes me happy. How does he play, how does he feel the music! If you have an imagination, you can hear all the sounds of the night: the birds, a rustle of the wind even a whisper of the night flowers.

I hope that you are OK,R.B., you do not play at all.

  • Thanks for asking...I am preparing a bunch of recitals at the moment so my schedule does not allow me to post videos. Check out my other performances - there are 44 more. :)

  • I noticed you don't have any videos. Try posting a few. I would love to hear what you have.

  • a bit too fast. Not glaring tho. I just wonder who's the joker with the red laser pen...

  • Where is the red laser pen?

  • toooo fast

am I the only one who thinks this?

    but nice touch

  • Unfortunately, yes. Performances that are slower tend to have a self-indulgent feel. This is why I use color more than tempo to sustain the dramatic sequence of phrases.

  • I think his tempo is just fine. This piece is too plodding if played morbidly slow.

  • This is my favorite interpretation on YouTube.

  • Lovely. I feel your tempo is just right. Any slower and it starts to plod, and the cross-rhythms become just a little "cross".

  • I lost this piece on a drive somewhere. I will never forgive myself for losing such a piece. :(

  • I'm learning this song at the moment- it's so nice to finally reach a level in piano where you feel like you are finally playing true music!! I think this is one of those pieces :).

  • Look at his stupid head

  • Why can't you follow the melody if it's at a slower speed? I'll admit, it's more difficult to play at a slower speed because of the 3s against 2s but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Playing it so fast makes the quick bit sound rushed too.

  • I prefer this version than Gilels

  • This is almost exactly the tempo I play it. I think it's nice because you can keep the melody line and it doesn't sound choppy. You can also make it seem more calm and musical by putting more emphasis on rests and phrasing. Everyone has a different opinion, there's no reason to get nasty about it.
