I remember the use of the word halcyon when Nietszche referred to Mendelssohn.
This performance succeeds in capturing this quality in spades. Thanks,Raanan

I like the way you play it, the tempo, the character... This was one of my favorite pieces when I still used to play cello! Good job!

I agree. The piece is played well but it tends to lack in dynamics. The possibilities in Mendelssohn are endless, especially with the sudden mood changes that he accomplishes. It is then up to the performer to reflect the changes! Take 2:01 (mm 114) for example. There is a great possiblity that the performer misses! I like to play it very quietly and build to the high C#. These subtleties are everywhere in this piece and should be exploited at any opportunity.

Well, this performance is certainly nice. But I have to say that it lacks the dynamic contrasts and tempo flexibilty nessecities for Mendelssohn's music. The tricky part about Mendelssohn, is that the music might remind us of Mozart in simplicity, rythmical stability....etc... but it's not that classical...
the music needs as much inspiration as Brahms to my understanding. But a very good performace nevertheless.

Dear Withcellist,
This was not the start of the program,(perhaps the third piece) hence, no bowing...
Thanks for watching,
Inbal
