  • @paulj0557 (a reply in two-parts, thanks to YouTube limited typing space)...

The big organs did, usually, have nice tones. Better than lots of the small portable keyboards, because the organ was engineered to make use of the resonance of the cabinet. Take away the big speaker cabinet, and you get that screechy tinny sound of the combo organ famous in many 1960s songs (e.g. The Doors' Light my Fire). Even a Hammond B3 will sound crap without good speakers.

  • @paulj0557 It is one of my favourite songs, though I prefer their original rendition, rather than any newer version they sang of it. I like the simple instrumentation, and how Judith Durham's voice sounded, back then.

It was shot using a huge 1970s television camera (Philips LDK2) and a much smaller 1980s video camera (JVC KY-2000). Yes, we did get to see some of the Johnny Carson shows in Australia, though I've only ever seen the edited highlights versions.

  • I like that tune...I'll put in on my playlist:

'Organ Tunes even Organ Haters will Love!'

Cool 70's Johnny Carson style camera shot mixing. The Technics U90 has a very warm flute tone. Like the Yamaha and the Kawai, the Japanese know how and why to understate tonality in their organs. I like them a lot. I have a Yamaha B4cr that is just as much fun to play as my big organs like the Wurlitzer 625t.

For a not so understated tone watch my post, ' Harry Wach , Californian Here I Come ' sides A & B
