Dead bees. I found the bees dead when visiting my friend Kathie's hive. I am not too sure why though I strongly suspect they died of hunger. I assume it's hunger since they are head in the cells which to me suggest they were trying to scoop the last drop of nectar. Spring weather was very cold and erratic.

  • they definately died from starvation poor buggers. Another problem is when you get a nuc dont split up the brood the way you did keep everything together and add your foundation or empty's on the outside of the frames of bees that way they will work into it when they are strong enough, the way you have done it there have not been enough bees to cover all the frames of brood and keep them warm so they have chilled and died before they can hatch,.

feed, a nuc when you hive it & come back often

  • Thanks that's also what a professional beekeeper told me.

  • Yup bees with heads buried in empty frames is always starvation. Then once adult bees die there is no warmth for young brood to hatch as they chill. If they were checked earlier for stores they would still be alive if they got feed

  • that is right..died from hunger..
