Minecraft - How to play and your first night in game - Part 1

How to play 101:
1) Keep generating maps until you get one with Coal visible from your spawn.
2) After navigating to the Coal, find a tree and smack the trunk to get wood (5-10 is ok
3) Now open inventory ("I" Key), and convert wood into wood planks
4) fill each inventory crafting with wood plank, make crafting table
5) Make a stack of wood shafts, just a 2x2 block of wood planks (makes 4)
6) Make a wooden pick at the crafting table, first select the table and put it in your hot bar. Drop the table and right click to open the table.
7) Make the pick! 2 shafts in the middle and 3 wood planks across the top to make your pick
8) Get the coal
9) Make torches, in your 2x2 crafting window in inventory just put the stick on the bottom and coal on top...you have LIGHT
10) Bunker down for the night and get some mats for the next morning.

how do i put the stuff down...the coal for the steps or the crafting table! i can only press q and it will drop a small block and i will automatically pick it up! help!

@Sumopigmanful right click the crafting table. Click drag from inventory into the table.

@bakoli123 try to aim high when u drop it and you wont pick it up except if u accidently run towards it.
