Audio starts at 0;29 - when tubes warm up...

The phantastron is an Electric Western instrument available as a kit or complete instrument. It is all vacuum tube, and inspired by electronic music and cybernetic computer designs of the 1930s-1960s. www.electricwestern.com

  • I wonder what 3 or 4 of those(like a guitar) would sound like!

  • Do you have the schematic?

    I want to build one.

  • It's the old Atari game sound !

  • (1:11)I AM A ROBOT.....BEEP BOOP BEEE BOOP BOOP BEEEP BOOOOP...hahhahaah.

Me and a bunch of friends put together robot costumes for halloween, but they would be so much cooler if we had one of these.

  • My girlfriend was nearby when I was watching this and at about 3 minutes in she remarked "sounds like something's dying!" ;)

  • So true - Those old machines had an organic feel that's hard to beat. I recently bought a copy of the soundtrack from Forbidden Planet just so I could hear the oscillator voices without the movie dialog - very interesting. I'm still amazed that all this was done using tubes, springs, and tape loops! This movie is a must see for synth experimenters - not to mention that its visually stunning as well.

  • Or even better... a Space Echo or similar tape delay machine. Pure analogue goodness :D

  • Very cool. It would sound totally wild if you patched it through digital delay.

  • Very nice!

Will definitely pick one up when they are available.
