So true - Those old machines had an organic feel that's hard to beat. I recently bought a copy of the soundtrack from Forbidden Planet just so I could hear the oscillator voices without the movie dialog - very interesting. I'm still amazed that all this was done using tubes, springs, and tape loops! This movie is a must see for synth experimenters - not to mention that its visually stunning as well.
