  • I'm not sure that was the original point of the song, I thought more it was the struggle of admittance of guilt. It starts off with him declaring his total innocence. I felt the lyrics like "my head is burning", ..."heads exploding" are graphical metaphors for the truth eating him up. As he awaits the "mercy seat" he struggles with his spirituality, he declares repeatedly that he's not afraid to die, but he also reveals he's looking forward to his execution to be releaved of his guilty torment.

  • All the respect to Nick Cave and everything, but personally I find that this intrepretation works even better than the original...

  • hw told a big lie in his defence...HE WAS GUILTY!!!!

  • amazing!!!! , great interpretation of "the man in black"

  • @Lockdown42 this is interesting,I first intrepreted that last line to mean that he had lied about not being afraid to die. But maybe you're right... Interesting how different people will perceive things differently!

  • This song is originally a Nick Cave-song.

  • This song tells us how inhumane capital punishment really is.
