I'm not sure that was the original point of the song, I thought more it was the struggle of admittance of guilt. It starts off with him declaring his total innocence. I felt the lyrics like "my head is burning", ..."heads exploding" are graphical metaphors for the truth eating him up. As he awaits the "mercy seat" he struggles with his spirituality, he declares repeatedly that he's not afraid to die, but he also reveals he's looking forward to his execution to be releaved of his guilty torment.
