A ditty for green style. Music and lyric by Bill Dyszel.

VERSE
Some people say they wanna save my soul, others wanna save my planet
I say they can both save their breath, take the piety and can it!
When I get overbearingly green and act all freaky and fringy!
Its not really cause Im so green Im really just being stingy!
CHORUS
I'm not cheap I'm green! Its a trend, if you know what I mean!
If you ask your neighbor if hes green like you, he'll step right up and tell you I'mgreen too!
I'mnot cheap I'mgreen! Its a trend, if you know what I mean!
It's way too easy just to say you're green, 'cause no one know exactly what that means!

I'm not cheap I'm green! It's a dodge, if you know what I mean!
See here's my dinner from a dumpster and my toothbrush which is always secondhand!
I'm not cheap I'm green! It's a dodge, if you know what I mean!
If I bum a ride I'm savin' energy! If I steal your paper I can save a tree!

I'm not cheap I'm green! It's a style, if you know what I mean!
It means I'm cool because I dress in rags and hip for washing out my sandwich bags.
I'm not cheap I'm green! Its a style, if you know what I mean!
It lets me act as stingy as a shrew and lets me brag that I'm more green than you!

(In case you're wondering where I stand on this, I'm not especially green, but I'm very, very stingy.)

  • Sadly, to a lot of people "green" IS just a trend. It shouldn't be though.

  • Thanks, you're right. That's why environmentalism as a fashion statement is probably counterproductive. Fashions come and go.

  • I love the concept of this one - being a tightwad in the age of greenism is a happy accident, isn't it? If you ever decide to rework this piece, there are forums and groups dedicated to the recycle lifestyle (freecycle is probably the biggest) where people give away their junk - sometimes stuff they'd have to pay to have hauled away... Also some freebie sites where people surf the web for freebie offers and share the links. It's a lifestyle for some. And then there are the survey people....

  • Thanks! That's a thought. I also wanted to fit in a comment about how some big corporations now charge more money for less stuff and claim it's because they're "green."

  • Yes, yes, yes - FTW!!!

Oh, and-and-and... cleaning with vinegar (ostensibly because it's green, but it *is* a lot cheaper) - nobody wants to visit because whereever it's used smells like a salad bar for a long time. Green living sites have a treasure trove of material for you, I think. It's not a bad thing to R/R/R, but it is funny how obsessive some of us get... me included. You do not have permission to discuss this subject with my family; they do not share this genetic flaw. ;-]

  • I'm especially annoyed at restaurants that install nonfunctional electric hand dryers in the restroom, rather than towels, then claim they're "saving the environment." Yecch. I'd rather have clean hands.

  • Proud to say I am not green :).

  • And then you're stuck with the conundrum - do you shake your hands dry and walk out with "dewy" hands, or subject yourself to stares as you emerge with wet hand-prints on your shirt front or pant leg? (blush). ;-)

  • lol
