Valve played the developers of the HL2:Deathmatch mod Hl2:CTF in a match, but it seems valve couldn't take the heat and decided to cheat a little bit =)

Valve used these sprays when they played in the match, which they were kind enough to give us. You can download them here. http://imgur.com/1785n.jpg

All of the valve players after they "transformed" were invincible and had a colored trail following their player (like the grenade trail)

The Bullitt - Ran faster and used a crowbar.

Gordon - Used the "modified gravity gun" that is used at the end of HL2, which ragdolls players.

Cyclops - had a "laser beam" that came out of his eyes that instantly killed any player caught in its path

The Disintigrator - A floating combine ball that evaporates people upon contact

TNT - uses the rocket launcher with infinite ammo and shoots rockets with a much faster rate of fier

  • Just wondering, did the match have cheats on? If not, I'm wondering how Valve has such entity control.

  • @4Zook44

I spectated the match, and even i'm not sure what exactly happened. I honestly thing that it was staged, and there was a special build of the game meant for this match where valve could 'transform' or whatever, since in hlstatsX (something that tracks kills and other stats of source games) had like a "HL2CTF VS VALVE" mode along with the HL2CTF mode

but then on the other hand, if it was a special build, then how come i watched using the same build that i downloaded on their site?

  • what was the whole noob song thing about during the beginning part of the video?

  • after the match is finished, valve's score goes up by about 14 points lol

  • 4:12 - 4:21 Thought I was about to blue screen D:

  • @4Zook44 Y...no...? They edited the source code itself. As in, actually rewriting the engine itself, it's not something anyone else could manage since VAC would notice the difference in files. It's like if you made a multiplayer mod you could add a flag in it so that anyone playing from your Steam Account was invulnerable and had unlimited ammo. Which is what they did. Modmakers can do it, players can't.

  • @Zeterai So basically they re-worked their ability to control entities into the game after the CTF devs handed over the source. If only someone outside of Valve could make an entity bypass, though it would probably be patched in a few days.

  • @4Zook44

Essentially, the HL2CTF team made a mod and challenged Valve to a match. Valve asked for their source code to "make sure they wouldn't cheat", and, like the trusting fans they are, the HL2CTF team handed over the code. Which the Valve team then modified to enable them to cheat thusly. Apparently the HL2CTF team wasn't surprised that Valve could/would do it, only that they managed to do it in a couple hours.

  • @4Zook44 its fucking valve, they can do whatever the fuck they want.
