  • More than a minute and halfs worth of time should have been spent explaining this.... Also, this knot is done completely different then the two strand Flemish Loop demonstrated by a guy tying boat ropes... His not only looks stronger, it looks like it would be better for a bow..... Actually, his knot is the same one ive seen used to make loops in steel cable...... BTW, once your finished with this loop, Is it acceptable to serve the end in order to make it more secure?

  • @rainmechanic Even though the boat rope knot and steel cable knot look stronger, they are not needed for a bow string. Once you have completed the string there is no need to serve the tapered portion where the loop blends in with the main string. Think of the loop end as being similar to a Chinese finger lock, the more weight you put on it the tighter it gets.

  • i have a quick question about B-50 i've been making my own flemish string i've made about 2 so far and each time I do this the string doesn't seem waxed enough my bundle of string is already comes pre-waxed I have a 50 pound bow and I use 2 defferent color strands at 7 sring per strand. my question is why when I roll the strings or Twist them they don't stay together at all they seem to just bunch up and fall apart??

  • One of our technical experts recommends the following:

"Even though the string is 'pre waxed' it does not have enough to keep the strands together when working with the bundle I recommend using the string makers wax. I just put enough wax on the bundles to keep the strands together. Also remember to twist away and roll it back towards you. Once you roll a bundle back towards you, I like to pinch the spot were the two bundles are being twisted just to keep them tight together."

  • How do you figure out how thick to make the string?

  • That depends on a variety of conditions. What weight bow do you have? What string material are you using? What size are your arrow nocks?

You should call our tech line for a complete answer to your question.

  • @rainmechanic ..I make mine this way and they are very good strings..been making bowstrings for 38 years...

  • Any materials purchased outside of an archery shop would be up to your own experimentation. The vast majority of string builders use materials intended specifically for bowstrings. We recommend utlilizing materials that are specifically designed for bowstrings.

  • Absolutely.

  • Can I use Dacron to make a string with this technique?

    Thanx in advance
