tie rods are easy to check and replace. The ball joints are some major work, and in my case it was the passenger side one which was totally worn out while the driver side is tight. The worst case is i guess the wheel bearing.
Just a little word of advice stay away from OE brand ball joints or any other part they make. even tho they are cheap they are also cheaply made. they will normally fail just right after the year warranty is up.
if you can afford it go with Moog or TRW and ONLY go with OE brand if you cant afford the other 2, thanks to learning that lesson goes to Rainbow muffler for putting those Crap OE brand ball joints on my car.
the first set went out before a year but they honored the warranty.
The best thing to do is jack it up and look at the ball joint and shake the tire. then look at the tie rod wile you shake it. its best to have a helping hand wile you do this cause it can be hard to do both at the same time (shaking the tire and looking at the said part).
that should tell you whats up. i found out that my ball joint was going out wile having a tire replaced.
