James Turrell Skyspace at Pomona College December 26, 2008 1:00AM

James Turrell's Skyspace Atrium at Pomona College. Includes 2 pans of the architectural light installation, and a 3 minute "chime of light."

Ideally the space should be viewed at sunrise or sunset; judging from the orientation of the space, I think sunset would be a better bet since it faces west. Every hour on the hour, this 3 minute wash of light occurs. The experience was quite a bit more intense than video could capture.

this isn't really about the lights. its about the space and color in relation to the sky. so yes, the best time to see this is at sunset. james brings the color of the sky into the space by making it almost completely flat. if you look at the black square you can see how it almost looks like its painted on. it's pretty amazing to see at sunset.

If you google Turrell (he also has a facebook fan page) you'll see that he is a master at setting light, colour and shape into settings. xoxoxo Enjoy, I'm off to try to catch this at DAWN for the first time (yes, envy me lolo :P)
