How come even after it has formatted the hard drive MS-DOS is still able to run?

@MrGamemaka When the machine loads the contents of autoexec.bat in order to perform the actions it contains, it has to load MS-DOS first. Just like if you delete Windows files while Windows is running it continues to run, so does MS-DOS. Once you restart you'll have to reinstall whatever OS you want to use.
