This is just one incredible example of the extraordinary things Vermonters can do in the most challenging situations. Just a day after flooding swept away the bridge on Route 30 over Ball Mountain Brook, and four homes along Water Street, the town worked together to repair another bridge downstream, and built up a temporary road along the river's edge, back around to the other side of the main bridge. The project started around 1PM on Monday, August 29th. By 9PM evening, there was a passable road that will allow emergency vehicles to enter and exit the town (not for general traffic though). We're seeing this kind of work all over the area - neighbors helping neighbors, and people sharing their talents to get through this crisis.

If you have not already, make sure you take the opportunity to thank our first responders, road crews, utility crews, and all the volunteers that are helping to get us past this.

  • I was in Jamaica this weekend and the temporary road the town built is amazing. Stopped to pick up some food for camping at Jamaica Market and glad to hear the town is doing okay. Best wishes to all.

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks for the video. I hope you will post more so we can see the progress. I rented a place on water st for a couple years in the late 90s. Am glad to see it's still there. Loved the swimming hole just up the street. I miss Jamaica all the time. Wish I could lend a hand. Best wishes, Tim in WA

  • Thanks for the video. I keep checking each morning to see how folks are doing.

No surprise that Jamaica is already working on repairs. One heck of a town.

Blessings to all and thanks that no one was lost...

  • This is incredible. I love Jamaica! We have been so blessed by this community. Oliverolsenvt- thank you for your videos, they mean so much to us.

  • Jamaica has always responded quickly to emergencies. But, this time the Ball Mountain Brook MUST be straightened through the village, and huge concrete "seawalls" installed. Hasn't it been proven that "rip-rap" does not do the job? How many times have we seen this, or nearly this, happen? The two homes I lived in until I was 23 years old are gone, only memories remain, well, that and the barn! Just very glad no loss of life. Thanks for sharing the videos.

  • These are the people you want for neighbors. I love Vermont.
