Udarata Menike - C.D. Fonseka

Compannage Daniel Fonseka, better known as C.D.Fonseka was born on the 27th February 1932 in Moratuwa. He received his education at St. Sebastian's College Moratuwa.

From his early childhood he took a keen interest in music, and followed foot steps of his father who was associated with Sinhala drama and cinema. At the tender age of 18 he released his first song 'Kandukaraye' written by Bertram Denipitiya.

He entered into professional music scene in 1950 and had continued success for 34 years with over 100 songs recorded. With his song 'Malsara' in 'Senasuma Kothenada', opened door for C.D. to enter into Sinhala cinema .

C.D. released his only cassette 'Oyata Rathney' in 1985. This version of the song is from the cassette, which is not the original version. Original was sung by Shelton Mendis, Razeena Yakeem, Anjalene Gunathileke nee Lanerole, and CD Fonseka. Melody and music composed by Patrick Denipitiya.

Fonseka bade farewell to the music world on the 11th May 1986.

Hi I wish to state that the melody and music for this Original Song was by PATRICK DENIPITIYA who is living in Canada.

It was sung by Shelton mendis, Razeena Yakeem, Anjalene Gunathileke nee Laneroole, and CD Fonseka. He also composed another song called Ruhunu Kumari with the same Artists and the Lyrics By Late Mr Karunaratne Abeysekera. What you hear is not the Original and there are no female voices here..

Hi Mahesh, I believe that you are Mahesh Denipitiya son of Patrick. Thanks for the valuable information. You are correct this is not the original and I have not introduced this as the original which I was unable to source. I believe you were at Airlanka when I was there? I left in 85.

Yes and No. Jude (-: I am mahesh but it was my bro Primus who worked at Air lanka.I dont blame people like you who will be mislead by those who originally feed wrong information or do not make any attempt correct it . I thank you for correcting this error but me and my brother have decided to track those people who ORIGINALY violates copyrights of my fathers compositions and possibly take action against them. Thanks for the very informative comment. I am not a relative of CD, but a fan just like you. It is a pleasant coincident that Sanhinda celebrated CD's life just after you thought about him. You are correct about the uniqueness of his songs and most of all the voice. Hope all goes well with the exams!

(I have to break my long comment due to the limitation on characters). Well, I was really surprised to see that they are going to do a program of him. I was on 7th heaven coz that Sunday was the final day of my exam and I can freely watch it.

I was born in 1986, the same he bade farewell. but I am an ardent fan of him. The usage of correct & smooth language with unique melodies makes his songs special. They stand apart form the normal pop in his era
