Group of two people kayaks around the San Juan Islands, WA in June/2006 while a big Orca and her children swam under us. You can hear their underwater sounds.

  • "Kayaking with the killer whales in San Juan Is." Is what? sentence fragment.

  • "Is." is the abbrevation for Island.

  • Thats cool how you can here them talking to eachother!...oh question, who was using the camera?

  • You could hear the Orcas "talking" because our guide had an amplifier with an underwater mic. I was the one with the camera and was so excited with the event that kept missing the jumps. I was a lifetime experience. Thanks for your comments.

  • What company takes people kayaking with whales near the San Juan Islands. All the companies we spoke to go to Johnstone Straits. Thank you.

  • That time was with a private organization in San Francisco, whose doesn't do it regularly, but I would recommend to go individually in your own car, bring your kayak, I didn't see any danger, but I am sure you can find tourist tours that can show you around directly in the port of the Islands. • I love how you can hear their calls even above the surface of the water. Orcas rule.

  • I know, I know, I was just being facetious. ;)

  • There's a few companies you can go whale watching with. Prince of Whales from Victoria, which is closest to the San Juans. There's Steveston Seabreeze and Vancouver Whale Watch out of Richmond and Wild Whales from Vancouver. I don't know the names of the ones from Washington but you could try their tourism office or google search them. Hope that helps with your plans! I used to work for Steveston SeaBreeze Adventures, amazing experience!

  • aMAZING, YOU CAN HEAR THEM TALKING...i THINK THEY WERE AS CURIOUS ABOUT YOU AS YOU WERE ABUT THEM.
