This is the midterm project for my ANIM713 - Drawing in Motion class at SCAD-Atlanta. The assignment was to do a straightforward rotoscope, but alter it in such a way to convey the motion of the subject.
I chose to use footage of a tai-chi master practicing his routine. So much of tai-chi involves controlling internal energy and smooth, graceful movements. I also chose to incorporate the classical elements of earth (the grass rising from around his feet), wind (the arc lines that track his hand movements), and water extracted from the ground and manipulated). The water effect didn't come out as good as I'd hoped, but I think it works well enough.
Though this was more straightforward than my final rotoscope project, this one got pretty frustrating. Having such smooth and slow movements got really monotonous and boring. I also wasn't fully familiar with the animation toolset within Photoshop CS3, so my pipeline wasn't very efficient. Still, it was an interesting project and I enjoyed doing it.
nice!
