Now don't be misled by my sanctimonious-sounding user name--I think people have the right to own pet monkeys, & I KNOW most pet monkeys--at least the ones not being swung around by their necks on dusty Malaysian street corners for the amusement of tourists--live in relative comfort & are far more likely than their wild kin to survive infancy. But "Okie"? Per capita, Oklahomans own more monkeys and great apes than any other state.

Depends on the state apparantly, in California no, but certain other states you can legally own primates as pets.
Not sure if there's licensing requirements though.

@AnglOsAxOn2 I just don't get why everyone wants to ascribe exclusively to Americans such universal human follies as dressing up animals, which people have done for thousands of years. If you searched, you would turn up videos of people in thirty countries gibbering inanities over their miserable-looking pet monkeys in thirty different languages and accents. There are stupid people everywhere--ours just get more exposure because they can all afford cameras, a computer, and Internet access.c
