http://www.ascap.com Rodriguez was the greatest 70s U.S. rock icon that never became famous - except in South Africa. The 2012 Sundance documentary, Searching for Sugar Man, tells the incredible story of Rodriguez and two fans who tracked him down in Detroit to raise him out of obscurity. On Monday, January 23rd, Rodriguez performed at the Sundance ASCAP Music Café. He and the director of his film, Malik Bendjelloul, spoke to ASCAP's Erik Philbrook after Rodriguez's standing room only performance.
ASCAP's hundreds of thousands of songwriter, composer and music publisher members all have one thing in common: they are driven to create. I saw him April 16 in Los Angeles. Great voice and awesome music. If you get a chance to see him live, go for it.

I won't say he's better than anyone, that would diminish who he is. He is Sixto Rodriquez. A category unto himself. Comparisons diminish the artist. Why do we, as humans have to put an elitist twist on it? He is Sixto Rodriguez! Awesome!

Unlike Dylan, who was in an American Express ad, Rodriguez, after his new found fame, continues to remain uncompromising.
